I haven't touched coloured pencils... for such a long time that I was even scared to try. I remembered them to be really difficult to work with but it turned out that either my previous experience was a bad dream or I somehow learned how to treat them well. Anyway, it turned out pretty well :)

Well, actually I've been lately working with watercolours mostly, not coloured pencils. But I guess what they have in common is that you shouldn't be afraid of mixing colours. At the beginning your painting/drawing may look awkward but once you start adding the shades and different tones it looks better and better.
You can also find some kind of a 'role model' when it comes to style - I personally admire :iconaurorawienhold:'s style and I find her tutorials and WIPs very helpful.
And most importantly, don't get discouraged :) Everything takes time, you may be unsatisfied with the effects for long time but eventually you''' reach the stage when you say 'It's actually pretty good'. They don't say 'practice makes master' for nothing ;)
